"Naughty Pots" Group Show - March 2008
March 21st - April 16th, 2008
This show explores themes of attraction with humor and delight through the artwork of 5 very diverse and talented artists.
Leigh Talylor Mickelson’s “Botanical Duets” celebrate the exotic relationship between a plant and its urgent desire for pollen. These quirky and imaginative pairings are based on secrets revealed under a microscope. Richard Swanson’s teapots show a different kind of pairing. The couples embrace with joyous abandon while her hair flies off the lid and his leg serves as the spout. They make a hot brew indeed. David Furman’s “Erotic China” series includes his impeccably crafted sculptures of artist’s wooden mannequins, which he imbues with great emotional and sensual power. This unlikely truth comments on the nature of human intimacy and Furman confronts us on the subject with his usual irony and humor. The black and white platters of Louisiana artist, Dennis Sipiorski are exuberant and expressive. His carved and drawn nudes adorn his functional ware with alluring lines and curves. Finally, a local artist GWU MFA student Gina Tibbott covers a wall with her delicate porcelain tubes jutting en masse towards the unprotected viewer.
