OPENING RECEPTION - Wednesday, October 12th (6-8pm)
The show will be open through November 14, 2018.
Cross MacKenzie Gallery is pleased to present New Material, featuring new works by artists Greg Minah and Nicole Gunning.
Painter Greg Minah describes himself as a participant in the dynamic compositions he creates. His unconventional approach uses water as a key component of creation in addition to paint. His process follows the flow of the water, altering pigment, texture, and pattern by moving the canvas rather than the paint with a brush.
Our viewers will remember Nicole Gunning for her extraordinary life-sized self-portraits in terra cotta after her Corcoran degree show 2015. In this new work, like Minah, she interacts with the medium of painting in a unique manner without traditional brushes or palette knives. While Minah uses water as his added element, she uses bentonite: an absorbent clay created by the decomposition of volcanic ash. Gunning applies paint directly to the surface and builds a rich texture of color into sharp relief.
